Examinations
Although students are encouraged to enter for examinations there is no obligation for them to do so.
Grade exams
Most students are entered for A.B.R.S.M. examinations but can also opt to be examined by Trinity College of Music or by London College of Music.
Due to the number of students entered by the College it is usually the case that examinations will be held in our own premises. This gives candidates the advantage of being familiar with the surroundings and the pianos which they willbe required to use. Another advantage is that warm up facilities are available, which is not always the case at other examination centres.
Diplomas
Students can be entered for diploma examinations in most instruments and subsequently often join the tutorial staff of the College.
Group tuition is available in theory leading to the qualification of A. Mus.T.C.L.
G.C.S.E.
U.C.M. is unique in that it is the only Music School in Northern Ireland which is officially recognised by C.C.E.A. as an examination centre. This means that we can enter students for G.C.S.E. and A level and that the examination will take place in the College. We are proud that one of our students was, in 2001, selected to perform at C.C.E.A.’s concert as an example of the best candidates.
G.C.S.E. is often studied at the College by students who wish to pursue a course in Music Technology at Q.U.B. and thus far we are pleased that we have had 100% success rate in entrance to this faculty.
